This survey has been carried out since
September 2001 on a wide range of audiences including those attending gigs
of:
All About Eve
Fairport Convention
annA rydeR
annA rydeR banD and including these areas:
Burton-On-Trent
Nottingham
Wales
Oswestry
Germany
Australia
Newcastle
Darlington
Sevenoaks
Dorking The audiences were
asked if faced with the decision of saving either a goldfish
or a frog and you could only save one and the
other definitely died (unfortunately) which one would you save ?
It was found that the majority of
audiences said frog. However there was always
a very small proportion of people who said goldfish,
ranging from .03% to 15%. Exceptions
to this were Burton-On-Trent where the audience overwhelmingly said horse,
Darlington where only one person said goldfish
and no-one else said anything, Port Fairy Australia where there were a
higher percentage of goldfish (32.4%) but the
frog percentage was higher still (46.7%),
Saulgau Germany where no-one understood the question and so just looked
blank. The longest duration of
spontaneous audience discussion was at Banbury. The lowest was at
Burton-On-Trent. The results of
the survey clearly demonstrate a higher percentage of frogs yet a
persistent and significant minority of goldfish.
Reasons
given were many and diverse:
